Ylang Ylang is a tropical evergreen tree that grows in the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Madagascar, and the Reunion Islands.  It has large, tender, fragrant pink, mauve or yellow flowers. The yellow flowers are viewed as being the best in terms of quality. These flowers are picked very early in the day in early summer.

Ylang Ylang essential oil is extracted by steam distillation of the freshly picked flowers.
The oil is pale yellow to golden in color and has a floral-balsamic aroma that blends well with other floral and citrus fragrances.

The name ‘Ylang Ylang’ means “flower of flowers”.  The fragrant, pale yellow petals are often strewn across the marriage bed of newlywed couples as a symbol of love. Ylang Ylang was also a popular ingredient of hair preparations in Europe. Ylang Ylang has been used for centuries as an aphrodisiac. Like the other three major aphrodisiac oils – Rose, Neroli and Jasmine - Ylang Ylang is beautifully uplifting emotionally. It is also calming and relaxing. Today it is often included in fine expensive perfume blends.

Ylang Ylang essential oil is a great mood-lifter. It is uplifting, reduces stress, is calming and euphoric. It is considered an aphrodisiac. Because it balances the natural oil production of our skin, it is also very useful in natural skincare products. 

Ylang Ylang is often used for acne, oily skin, and irritated skin. It helps balance sebum production and with its disinfectant qualities can fight bacteria that often contributes to acne.  It adds luster to skin and can be a stimulant for circulation.
