^ TopHistory & Origins of Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is a yellowish-green oil extracted from the melaleuca treeOn April 29th 1770 Captain James Cook and his maritime party from Britain landed the H.M.S. Endeavor in Botany Bay near what is today Sydney Australia.  After landing the crew found a grove of trees with sticky, aromatic leaves which they used to make a spicy tea. What they didn’t know (yet) is that the Aborigines in northeastern New South Wales had been using tee tree as a healing herb for many generations.

Tea tree oil is a yellowish-green oil extracted from the melaleuca tree, an extremely hardy tree with needle-like leaves that is native to Australia and Tasmania. The oil is steam distilled from the tree's leaves and twigs. The Tea Tree is a very robust tree.  It grows back quickly and is ready for cutting only two years after its’ previous harvest.

The aboriginal people of Australia have used Tea Tree for centuries.  Tea tree oil also has a long history of use in aromatherapy. In 1933 the British Medical Journal recognized Tea Tree oil as a “powerful disinfectant, non-poisonous and non-irritating”.  During World War Two, Tea Tree oil was highly valued by the military in the South Pacific.  It was issued to each soldier and sailor as part of their war-time kit in order to treat tropical infections and infected wounds.

^ TopNatural Skincare Benefits of Tea Tree Oil

Lavender has been a calming, restful, and serene influence for centuriesTea tree oil is used to promote healing and reduce chances of scarring.  Many skin problems such as warts, insect bites, rashes, cold sores and blisters can benefit with Tea Tree oil use. Tea Tree oil is anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antibacterial, antiviral and fungicidal.  This oil blends easily with the skin's oils and alters the chemical barriers of the skin thereby making it inhospitable for the growth of fungi and other organisms.

Yellowstone Bees adds Tea Tree oil to several of our natural body care products to enhance the healing effects of this natural essential oil.
