^ TopHistory & Origins of Orange

Sweet Orange is derived from an evergreen treeSweet Orange is derived from an evergreen tree. It Is smaller than the bitter orange tree, and less hardy. The fruit itself has a sweet pulp with no bitter membrane. It is believed that the Sweet Orange tree was originally brought to Europe by the Arabs in the 1st Century.  Today it is cultivated in Israel, Brazil, Cyprus, the Mediterranean, as well as the United States.

Sweet Orange essential oil is extracted by cold-pressing the fresh, ripe outer peel. It is a lovely orange color. Sweet Orange essential oil is citrusy and brightly fragrant which makes it cheerful and uplifting. However, rather than stimulating like Lemon oil, the overall effect of Sweet Orange is calming, warming, and soothing.

There are other “orange” essential oils but they come from the bitter orange tree rather than the sweet one:  Petitgrain from the leaves, Neroli from the blossoms, and Bergamot pressed from the peels.
