Lemongrass is a fast growing, tall, aromatic perennial grass native to Asia. The essential oil is light yellow in color. Lemongrass is extracted by steam distillation of the fresh and dried leaves of this fragrant grass. It is mostly cultivated and distilled in the West Indies, Africa, parts of Asia and western India.
Lemongrass essential oil has a lemon-fresh aroma which makes it an excellent deodorizer. It shares similar properties with Citronella and likewise has a great reputation for keeping insects away. Both of these essential oils are uplifting.
Lemongrass is known in natural skincare for its invigorating and antiseptic properties. It is often used for acne and open pores, skin toners, athlete's foot, insect repellent and heavy perspiration.
- astringent properties can be used in facial toners to help fight acne and greasy skin
- excellent anti-depressant as it fortifies and balances the nervous system
- can be used in bath for soothing muscular nerves and pain
- it is antimicrobial, antiseptic, astringent, antibacterial, fungicidal, deodorizing and toning.
Spiritually, the aroma of Lemongrass Oil is thought to promote psychic awareness and purification.
Note: as with any essential oil, always test a small amount first for sensitivity or allergic reaction.
