Clary Sage is an herb that dates back to the Roman Empire, where it was considered sacred. The herb’s invigorating and energizing properties were highly valued for promoting courage and mobility to the wearer. Clary Sage was also highly esteemed in the Middle Ages. During the 16th Century it was even used in England for brewing beer.
Clary Sage is a short perennial herb with large leaves and small bluish – purple flowers. The essential oil is steam distilled from the flowering tops and leaves of the plant. It is a light golden yellow color.
In natural skincare Clary Sage is useful for acne, inflamed conditions, oily skin and hair, and wrinkles. It is antidepressant, antiseptic, and astringent. It provides a euphoric action and can be used as a deodorant.
