^ TopHistory & Origins of Chamomile

Chamomile oil is one of the world’s oldest medicinal herbsChamomile is a low growing perennial with lacy leaves on stems capped with small, white daisy like flowers.  The plant is native to northwestern Europe and was brought to the United States by early settlers. Today it is cultivated in Britain, Hungary, Belgium, Italy, France and the USA.

Roman Chamomile essential oil is extracted by steam distillation of the flower heads of the chamomile plant. The oil is a pale yellow liquid.

Chamomile has a long tradition in herbal medicine and skin therapy, especially in the Mediterranean region where it has been used for over 2,000 years.  The flowers were originally diffused in an herbal tea for many cures and during World War II Chamomile was even used as a disinfectant.

Chamomile calms even the most sensitive skin while its warm sweet scent quiets the mind and soul. This exotic oil was essential to the ancients and remains an important tonic for our busy, modern lifestyles. Even in very small concentrations, Roman Chamomile essential oil has a soothing, calming effect.
