Beeswax is the oldest and purest wax in the world. It is the wax secreted from the underside of the bees, which they use to make the walls of the honeycomb. After the honey is extracted from the honeycomb, beeswax is what remains. Beeswax is a completely natural product that cannot be duplicated. No synthetic product having all its properties has ever been developed.
When constructing a honeycomb, female worker bees secrete a nutrient-rich substance called beeswax. According to Botanical.com, "The wax is secreted from wax glands on the underside of the bee's abdomen and is molded into six-sided cells which are filled with honey, then capped with more wax. When honey is harvested, the top layer of wax that covers the cells, or the cappings, must be removed from each hexagon-shaped cell."
Absolute Astronomy reports that bees fly approximately 150,000 miles, or the distance of six earth orbits, to produce only one pound of beeswax. And in order to produce this one pound of beeswax, a bee consumes six to eight pounds of honey!

100% all natural triple filtered beeswax is a key ingredient in many of Yellowstone Bees most popular natural body care products. Completely nontoxic, beeswax is known for its healing properties. We rely on it to protect your skin against environmental irritants and lock in moisture. Since it does not go rancid, beeswax also serves as a natural preservative, helping extend the shelf life of our products.
According to www.botanical.com, "Even after processing, beeswax still remains a biologically active product, retaining some anti-bacterial properties and also contains some vitamin A, which is necessary for normal cell development.".
Beeswax brings a long list of very positive attributes for natural skincare and natural body care products. It is a naturally nourishing moisturizer as well as being anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and an antioxidant.
- The Mayo Clinic recommends lip balm made from beeswax for chapped lip care and prevention. All of Yellowstone Bees lip balms contain beeswax.
- Because of the healing, softening and antiseptic properties associated with beeswax, it is a perfect ingredient for our Hand & Body Creams. Beeswax is a natural hydrating ingredient that helps keep skin moisturized by locking in moisture and protects skin from damaging environmental factors.
- The properties in beeswax work as a soothing and healing agent in salves designed for burns, cuts and other wounds. That's why we use beeswax in all our Hand & Foot Balms.
- The anti-bacterial properties of beeswax are why we use it in our Organic Herbal Soaps.
Some folks call the smell of beeswax a “nose dose of euphoria”. When beeswax is first created by the honeybee, it is white and odorless. While it is being stored in the honeycomb, the wax absorbs fragrance and color from pollen, honey and propolis. The result is a wonderful honey-like fragrance and color.
